As a YouTube subscriber of Randall Fields's, I was very excited when his Kindle book was finally released on Amazon! As you take a trip down memory lane with Randall Fields while reading his book, he makes you feel as if you're really beside him the way he vividly tells his life story! I don't want to get to in depth in the book, cause I don't want to spoil anything for anybody, but what I can definitely say is that; if you any compassion and empathy in your heart, you will feel a tremendous amount of pain for Randall...I think Randall Fields is a promising author and I'm definitely looking forward to more of his work!Product details

American Nightmare American Nightmare Chinese Dream Book 1 eBook Randall Sanborn Fields Reviews
I found this book by accident thanks to The Grand Admiral and i'm glad I read it. I wasn't sure what to expect with the title but WOW did this book scare me! It made me appreciate my upbringing a lot more.
I'm a black man in Asia myself (South Korea) and I don't blame Randall one bit for leaving where he was at. Seeing how much he went through to get to where he is at now is a feat not many people can say they've done. I look forward to his next book and I await what else he has to say.
The grammar in this book is horrible…..and I don’t care!
This book takes a raw, unapologetically honest look into the life of boy who was abused and suffered many times over, and chose to not only survive, but thrive in life.
I think this book tells the story of many young people growing up in homes plagued with deceit, lies, abuse and sorrow.
For example, It talks about glorified “Bible-huggin” church members, who show their Dr. Jekyll face to the world during the day, and their Mr. Hyde side at night to those living under their care.
This book is a story about triumph after tragedy, and remaining hopeful, even when you are imminently surrounded by people who try to sabotage your confidence, sense of identity and belief in yourself.
American Nightmare is a page-turner and a great story.
Pretty depressing life story. I know life isn't all unicorns and rainbows, but man, Randall had a tough time. I follow his Youtube channel Loser Laowai in China from time to time and so it was a great opportunity to see his writing style. Randall has quite a gift with words and I wish I had a chance to see him spit rhymes and poetry back in his New York days. I admire is insightfulness into the motivating factors that influence people's behavior such as that of his foster mother or the staff of the group homes he lived in. Gave me a greater appreciation for the type of individual Randall is. However, I wish he had explained more about his motivations behind moving to China and the steps he took to get there, as well as his early years in the Middle Kingdom.
The author of this book made it known on his you tube channel that he produced a book by the name of American Nightmare and wanted his subscribers to purchase it. It only cost $3.99 and I wanted to support him. It took me a while to read it but, when I finally did I could not stop reading it! This Autobiography is very dark and it is not for the faint of heart. If you don't have a stomach for violence and depravity then it is not for you. Randy does not beg for pity or ask that you like him but, understand his harsh upbringing and what shaped him to be the man he is today. His upbringing began in a foster home taking in by an abusive foster mother. His life as a child was pure hell and through the abuse, molestation, and degradation he still managed to retain his humanity and became an individual who succeeded despite the odds being against him. I highly recommend this book to any who want to understand they psychology abused orphans and children of the state.
From its first pages this book draws you into the deep end of the pool, where you must swim or sink. We know the author learned to swim and not only survived but thrives against all odds, but what you don't know is the classic magnetic pull of a good read how he made it. His gut-wrenching story is filled with unexpected twists that only Dickens could create.
With this book Randall Fields is a first-time published author - and self-published at that, but readers would do well to throw away any low expectations. Yes, the book needs some light editing for simple errors. But like a masterful musician, Fields never allows the technical errors to mar the overall performance. The narrative captivates to the very end, and the structure and flow are nearly flawless. People spend a lot of money and time studying at places like Iowa and Bread Loaf to understand such secrets of good writing, but Fields is beyond all that, freely building three-dimensional spaces wherever he wishes on the page. Publishers are always looking for an authoritative, unique voice, and Fields definitely has that. There are dozens of sentences that shine and ring like a struck bell, and I'm tempted to quote some but I don't want to spoil the reader's pleasure of discovery. The only thing that people might miss in this work is Fields' great sense of humor so evident in his youtube channel, "Loser Laowai"; there are hints of it in the book, but it is mostly hidden. Another point on style you won't find a better use of African American urban dialect. You can hear the voices loud and clear, witness the personalities and the emotions, feel the heat and weight of the city.
Happily another volume is in the works, because "American Nightmare" ends when Fields finishes college; at some point after that we know he leveled-up and went to China, where he uses "Loser Laowai" to view the world from a mixed-marriage Blasian perspective. How he ended up in Shanghai will remain a mystery until volume 2 comes out.
"American Nightmare" reminds me of "Manchild in the Promised Land." A recent and very useful companion memoir is "Handbook for an Unpredictable Life" by Rosie Perez, who like Fields grew up in New York City and suffered her own multiple circles of hell as an innocent child. What distinguishes "American Nightmare" from the rest of the genre is its distinctly global perspective, as if Shanghai is just a few blocks from the Bronx.
"American Nightmare" is multi-layered, courageous and driven by a faith in self and humanity that will inspire readers for a long time. Get this man an agent.
